Bhuile Shuibhne

Mad Sweeney

In 2010 Moonfish teamed up Ancient Music Ireland to create a show based on the legend of Mad Sweeney for the Galway Early Music Festival.

Is scéal spéisiúil í scéal Bhuile Shuibhne. Cuirtear malacht ar Shuibhne a iompaíonn ina leath-fear, leath-éan é. Is gá dó a bhaile a fhágáil agus conaí i gcriannte na gcoill, áit a bhuaileann sé le créatúr aisteach eile...

Created entirely with shadow puppetry, this ancient Irish legend came to life to a soundtrack of live prehistoric horn and bell music. The story was narrated in Old Irish by renowned Professor of Early Irish History, Dáibhí Ó Cróinín.

Moonfish were invited to bring Buile Shuibhne back to the stage for the 2013 Galway Early Music Fesitval. They teamed up with Ancient Music Ireland again to create an enchanting shadow-performance in the upstairs theatre space at Kelly's Bar, Galway. The piece was narrated by theatre-maker John Rogers.
