The Abbey, the egg and Star of the Sea sails again
Back in April we were lucky enough to spend a week at The Abbey, developing Redemption Falls as part of their season of Work In Progress showings. We hope to make a start on developing Redemption Falls next year.
Pretty serious thrill, walking into the Abbey every day. It was a huge honour to be invited to make work in their space and we hope it’s not the last time we see inside those walls. Also hugely exciting to see the Abbey touring their work throughout the country at the moment, and introducing their Free Preview programme.
In May and June, two of our facilitators worked with the egg theatre in Bath on their School Without Walls programme. A fantastic scheme, which allows children from schools local to the Theatre Royal Bath to attend classes in the egg and learn in a whole new way. The egg used Moonfish Pop-Up Worlds as part of the school’s programme which was thrilling for us to be a part of!
Our production of Star of the Sea will tour nationally and internationally from September onwards. We kick off in Galway’s Town Hall Theatre, before setting sail to the US. We’ll be touring to venues in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut then heading home to Ireland. Upon our return we’ll be playing at The Everyman in Cork, Droichead Arts Centre, Riverbank Arts Centre, An Grianan, The Hawk’s Well Theatre, Backstage Theatre and Roscommon Arts Centre. It’s fair to say that the world is a rather different place since we last toured Star of the Sea back in 2015. This is a pretty interesting time to be touring a piece that so strongly advocates freedom of movement. It feels so much more important to grit our teeth and keep ploughing on through this time of uncertainty. To hold on to our integrity and use our voices as artists and theatre-makers to advocate for a positive change in the wider world.
